WUVS 103.7 The Beat has joined forces with the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System (MHPSAS), revered alumni, and the erudite author Tracee Bruce, to catalyze a meaningful dialogue among the young minds of Muskegon Heights. This essay contest, exclusively for juniors and seniors at MHPSAS, nudges them to explore pivotal moments of Black History through Bruce’s influential book, “Systems That Shape(d) Black America: 40 Mini Lessons Outlining Defining Moments from Slavery to Modern Day.”
The stakes are particularly high as the essay competition rewards the triumph of three students with an all-inclusive educational journey to Ghana, West Africa – a vivid exploration of their heritage.

The Kids Free Trip to Africa Program: Empowering Youth Through Travel and History
Since its launch in 2017, the KidsfreetriptoAfrica Program has successfully facilitated over 30 high school students from Muskegon Heights in their educational pilgrimage to Ghana, West Africa, soaking up history firsthand and expanding their horizons, without the worry of travel costs.
An integral part of 103.7 The Beat’s Mentorship program, the KFTTA initiative stands as a vivid symbol of the community’s investment in its younger generation, providing life-altering experiences rooted in education and personal growth.
